In my personal opinion this certainly beats the standard copper and silver jewelry which is still very nice by the way and for the most part can still be considered to be contemporary jewelry I suppose. One of the reasons for it's striking popularity is the fact that Platinum loses less metal over time, making it more durable to hold diamonds plus related precious stones and is a perfect choice for family heirlooms. Due to the strength of platinum, it is also more durable for everyday wear than other metals holding stones, so there is less chance of losing the diamond or other stones.
