"Men in Black III" in the making?

Variety is reporting that a third installment in the "Men in Black" franchise is currently in development with "Tropic Thunder" scribe Etan Cohen on board to write the script.

There are no deals in place for the franchise's stars Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones, though it's unlikely that Columbia would greenlight the project without the duo's involvement, according to Variety.

The studio remained tight-lipped about the direction of the third "MIB" installment.

The first film, released in 1997, grossed over $587 million worldwide against a $90 million budget. It is currently the 49th highest grossing film of all time and Columbia's second highest earner, topped only by "Spider-Man." Its 2002 sequel, "Men in Black II," brought in an equally impressive $441 million.

The films follow the adventures of a pair of alien immigration officers who police and monitor the extra-terrestrials who make their home on Earth.
